Ecchi anime that are actually good, Let’s Go!

The ecchi genre, like the harem genre, has a bad reputation. Ecchi anime are typically thought of as anime with excessive fanservice to compensate for a lack of interesting characters, a poor story, and, in many cases, little to no world-building at all. That is not to say that every anime in this genre has a poor story, uninteresting characters, or no world-building at all. In fact, Ecchi anime has some of the best world-building, plot, and character development.

In this post, we’ll list 15 such Ecchi Anime that are actually good and worth watching!

15. Chobits

Chobits

Can love survive when computers begin to resemble humans?

Hideki Motosuwa is a young country boy striving to attend college. He can’t even pay his bills, let alone the latest craze: Persocoms, or human-like personal computers. On his way home one evening, he comes across an abandoned Persocom. She appears to be defective after being taken home and activated, as she can only say one word, “Chii,” which eventually becomes her name. Hideki decides to teach Chii about the world the old-fashioned way while also studying for his college entrance exams because she, unlike the other Persocoms, cannot save information to her hard drive.

Hideki and his friends investigate the mystery of Chii, who may be a “Chobit,” an urban legend about special units with real human emotions and thoughts, as well as feelings of love for their owner. Is it possible for a Persocom and a human to fall in love?

14. Highschool of the Dead

14. Highschool of the Dead

The dead began to rise unexpectedly, and Japan was thrown into complete chaos. Takashi Kimuro is forced to kill his best friend after he becomes one of the walking dead and terrorises a high school. They narrowly avoid their school’s death trap, vowing to protect Rei Miyamoto, the girlfriend of the man he just executed, only to be met by a fallen society.

Takashi and Rei quickly band together with other students to find their family members and learn what caused this massive pandemic. Saeko Busujima, the lovely Kendo Club president, Kouta Hirano, an otaku with a gun fetish, Saya Takagi, the daughter of a powerful politician, and Shizuka Marikawa, their hot school nurse, join them. Will their combined strength be enough to defeat the undead apocalypse?

13. Tsugumomo

Tsugumomo

A “tsukumogami” is a Japanese folklore term that refers to an object that has gained a soul and come to life, becoming alive and self-aware. Tsukumogami are classified into two types: mature “tsugumomo,” which have evolved through years of harmony with their owners, and aberrant “amasogi,” which are premature spirits born only to grant certain people’s destructive wishes.

Kazuya Kagami has never left the house without his mother’s obi since her death. He always has it with him, at home and at school. He nearly dies when a wig amasogi attacks him one day. When everything appears to be over, his prized obi defends him by transforming into a beautiful girl. Kiriha, Kazuya’s mother’s tsugumomo, greets him.

With the arrival of Kiriha, Kazuya enters a world he has never seen before, a world of gods and tsukumogami.

While tsugumomo is in some ways a typical ecchi anime, the concept of ‘tsukumogami’ and ‘amagami’ was intriguing, and I enjoyed watching it.

12. Blood Lad

Blood Lad

The ruler of Demon World’s Eastern district, Staz Charlie Blood, is a powerful vampire. Staz is an otaku who is obsessed with Japanese culture and has no interest in human blood, despite rumours that he is a bloodthirsty and merciless monster. While his subordinates manage his territory, Staz spends his days lounging around, watching anime, manga, and playing video games.

When a Japanese girl, Fuyumi Yanagi, unintentionally walks through a portal leading into the demon world, Staz is overjoyed. But, just as he begins to develop feelings for her, his territory is attacked, and Fuyumi is killed. Staz, heartbroken, vows to resurrect her so that he can visit the human world, which he has always desired.

The spatial magician Bell and the half-werewolf Wolf join Staz and Fuyumi on their quest to discover a magic that can bring humans back to life.

11. The Asterisk War

The Asterisk War

An unprecedented disaster known as the Invertia reshaped the world in the previous century. The Integrated Empire Foundation took control after existing nations’ powers dwindled dramatically. More importantly, the Invertia produced a new species of human, the Genestella, who are born with extraordinary physical abilities. Its elite are chosen at random from all over the world to attend the top six schools and compete in Festas, which are entertainment battles.

Ayato Amagiri is a transfer student on a scholarship at the prestigious Seidoukan Academy, which has recently struggled with poor academic performance. He sees Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld, the well-known Witch of Resplendent Flames, half-dressed! Julis, enraged, challenges him to a duel for invading her privacy. After the student council president cancels the duel, Ayato reveals that he has no interest in Festas. He instead enrolled in the academy in order to find his missing elder sister. When a more sinister plot emerges, despite being surrounded by some of the world’s most talented Genestella, Ayato sets out to win.

10. The Familiar of Zero

The Familiar of Zero

Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière is a self-absorbed mage in a world of wands, cloaks, and royalty. Despite attending Tristain Academy, a prestigious school for magicians, Louise has a major problem: she cannot properly cast magic, earning her the nickname “Louise the Zero” from her classmates.

Louise’s summoning causes a catastrophic explosion when first-year students are required to perform a summoning ritual! When the smoke clears, Saito Hiraga, a young man, appears. Saito, Louise’s companion, is now treated as a slave, being forced to clean her clothes and eat from the ground. An unknown brand discovered etched on Saito’s hand as a result of the summoning ritual is thought to be the mark of a powerful familiar named Gandalfr.

The Familiar of Zero is a wild, adventurous, and explosive novel about Saito adjusting to his new life and Louise proving to be more than her nickname suggests.

For some reason, I didn’t watch The Familiar of Zero until earlier this year. It was a lot of fun to watch, and if you haven’t seen it yet, Louise’s personality is very similar to Taiga (from Toradora), so if you like that, you’ll like it.

9. Prison School

 Prison School

For the first time in its history, Hachimitsu Private Academy, an elite all-girls high school, welcomes male students. The five enrolees, on the other hand, are a merry band of perverts incapable of communicating with females! Shingo, the foreign delinquent, the strange and sickly “Jo,” the overweight “Andrei,” the intelligent “Gakuto,” and Kiyoshi, the most normal of the bunch, are among the misfits.

Concerned about their lack of female interaction, the five boys embark on a dangerous mission to spy on several girls as they bathe. However, due to a series of mishaps, their operation eventually fails, exposing the boys’ actions to the entire school.

The menacing Underground Student Council sentences the boys to one month in prison for their crimes. The unforgiving beauties of the council have no idea that the boys’ perverted and unusual behaviour is only going to get worse.

Prison School is one of the funniest anime I’ve ever seen; the concept is intriguing, the characters have endearing personalities, and it’s a great anime to watch if you need a good laugh.

8. Kill la Kill

 Kill la Kill

Ryuuko Matoi has been on the hunt for her father’s killer since his death. She arrives at the prestigious Honnouji Academy, a high school unlike any other, after following her only lead—the missing half of his invention, the Scissor Blade. Satsuki Kiryuuin, the imposing and cold-hearted student council president, rules the academy alongside her powerful underlings, the Elite Four. Satsuki bestows “Goku Uniforms” on those at the top of the brutally competitive school hierarchy, which bestow the wearer with unique superhuman abilities.

Ryuuko retreats to her razed home after being severely beaten in a fight with one of the students in uniform, where she discovers Senketsu, a rare and sentient “Kamui,” or God Clothes. Senketsu awakens when she comes into contact with Ryuuko’s blood, latching on to her and bestowing enormous power on her. Ryuuko now confronts the Elite Four, armed with Senketsu and the Scissor Blade, in the hopes of reaching Satsuki and discovering who murdered her father.

7. Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon?

7. Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon?

Life is never dull in the bustling city of Orario, especially for Bell Cranel, a naive young man who aspires to be the greatest adventurer in the land. His dreams become a little more real after a chance meeting with the lonely goddess Hestia. With her help, Bell embarks on a fantastic quest deep within the city’s monster-infested catacombs known only as the “Dungeon,” where death lurks around every corner and a mysterious power moves among the shadows.

Surviving is a hard-won privilege, even on the surface. Nothing is ever certain in a world where gods and humans coexist, especially when they frequently clash. But one thing is certain: the hero of this herculean story will face a slew of blunders, triumphs, and friendships.

Is It Wrong For DanMachi To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? It was one of the first animes I watched and I really liked it. It’s very wholesome and satisfying to see Bell become stronger than his old weak self and overcome challenges as he raises his level, all while meeting new people who become a part of his family!

6. Nisemonogatari (& the rest from the Monogatari Series)

6. Nisemonogatari (& the rest from the Monogatari Series)

Surviving a vampire attack, meeting several girls plagued by supernatural entities, and simply getting by are some of the recent challenges Koyomi Araragi has faced. Furthermore, he awakens one morning to find himself kidnapped and bound by his girlfriend Hitagi Senjougahara. She has decided to imprison Araragi in order to keep him safe from Deishuu Kaiki, a con artist who defrauded Senjougahara’s family. Araragi discovers the fraud has targeted his sister Karen after receiving a panicked message from her.

His other sister, Tsukihi, is dealing with issues in addition to Karen’s. When two mysterious women who appear to know more about Araragi and his special group of friends enter their lives, not even he can predict their true intentions, let alone the disastrous truths about to be revealed.

If you’re thinking about watching the Monogatari series, keep in mind that it’s quite dialogue-heavy, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you get bored easily or have ADHD.

5. No Game No Life

No Game No Life

Tet, the One True God, rules over Disboard, a world populated by sixteen sentient races. Imanity, the lowest of the sixteen, is made up of humans, a magically incapable race. In a world where everything is decided by simple games, humanity appears to have no way out—until two outsiders arrive.

Sora and Shiro are inseparable shut-ins who dominate various online games as “Blank” on Earth. Despite their internet fame, the couple believes that life is just another boring game. They are unexpectedly transported to Disboard after responding to a message from an unknown user. Tet, the mysterious sender, informs them of the world’s unbreakable rules. Following Tet’s departure, Sora and Shiro begin their search for more information and a place to stay, which leads them to Elkia—last Imanity’s remaining kingdom.

Stephanie Dola, an emotional girl vying for the kingdom’s throne, runs into the duo there. She tries, in desperation, to reclaim her father’s throne, but her folly makes this impossible. Sora and Shiro are inspired by the girl’s motivation and passion and decide to help Stephanie reestablish Elkia, with the ultimate goal of becoming the enigmatic realm’s new rulers.

No Game No Life had a really cool concept, and the battles were entertaining to watch, but they had to ruin it yet again with the strange nonsense. Even with the step-siblings, it was a lot of fun to watch, and I loved the world in No Game No Life.

4. Chivalry of a Failed Knight

4. Chivalry of a Failed Knight

Few people in this world have the ability to transform their souls into powerful weapons. These people, dubbed “Blazers,” study and train to become Mage-Knights at the prestigious Hagun Academy; among them is the only F-rated Blazer, so-called failure Ikki Kurogane. When the academy’s worst student discovers Stella Vermillion, an A-ranked Blazer who also happens to be a princess, naked, she challenges him to a duel with dire consequences—the loser becomes the winner’s slave. Stella couldn’t go wrong, could she?

The Chivalry of a Failed Knight follows Ikki as he tries to prove his strength to a world that believes he is the weakest, all while meeting new people, learning new things, and gaining experience.

All I have to say about Chivalry of a Failed Knight is that I wish there was a second season, but studios nowadays prefer to pick up the trashiest of series instead of continuing with the ones that fans actually want to watch.

3. Golden Boy

Golden Boy

Kintarou Ooe specialises in part-time work, riding around Japan on his trusty Mikazuki 5 and finding work wherever he can. His adventures provide him with knowledge and experience that a classroom cannot teach him, ranging from political corruption to the delicacy of a young woman’s heart. Kintarou pursues his education while working odd jobs, no matter how demeaning they are, with nothing but the open road ahead of him—not to mention the many beautiful women he meets along the way. Who knows what will happen as he gains experience by completing each task? One day, he might even be able to save the world.

One thing is certain: this will be an extremely instructive experience!

In my humble opinion, Golden Boy is a very enjoyable anime with a lot of messed-up humour that I really enjoy. It only has six episodes, so if you’re looking for a quick and hilarious anime, I highly recommend watching it.

2. Food Wars

Food Wars

Souma Yukihira has been cooking with his father Jouichirou since he can remember. He spent years as a sous chef in his father’s restaurant honing his culinary skills and developing new dishes to impress their customers. He aspires to one day surpass his father’s performance and take over the restaurant, but he is surprised to learn that Jouichirou is closing the shop to take a job in New York.

Rather than following in his father’s footsteps, Souma enrols at the prestigious Tootsuki Culinary Academy, where only 10% of students graduate. The school is well-known for its “Shokugeki,” or intense cooking competitions between students used to settle disagreements and debates. Jouichirou tells Souma that in order to graduate and survive the next three years at Tootsuki, he must outperform him.

The harsh curriculum of the academy, as well as the fiercely competitive student body, await the young chef, who must learn to navigate the perilous environment if he hopes to realise his dreams. Is talent, on the other hand, enough to propel him to the top?

I was going to put Food Wars first, but I didn’t because it dragged at times and I didn’t like the ending. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad; Food Wars is one of the best Ecchi anime I’ve seen, and the fan service, if I do say so myself, is quite creative and entertaining to watch.

It was a lot of fun watching Soma face challenges and interact with the other characters in the anime, as well as their journey together while pursuing the same goal. Food Wars has a lot of endearing characters; there aren’t many I don’t like. It was also entertaining to watch the foodgasm.  I highly recommend watching Food Wars; it is one of my all-time favourite anime.

1. Mushoku Tensei

Mushoku Tensei

Despite his life of being bullied, scorned, and oppressed, a 34-year-old shut-in summoned the courage to attempt something heroic—only to have it end tragically. In an unexpected turn of events, he awakens in another world as Rudeus Greyrat, resuming his life as a baby born to two loving parents.

Rudeus quickly adjusts to his new surroundings by recalling memories and knowledge from his previous life. He begins to demonstrate magical talent far exceeding all expectations, honing his craft with the assistance of a mage named Roxy Migurdia. Rudeus learns swordplay from his father, Paul, and meets Sylphiette, a young girl who quickly becomes his best friend.

Rudeus strives to make the most of his newfound freedom while overcoming his traumatic past as he begins his second chance at life. And maybe one day he’ll find something he couldn’t find in his previous life: love.’

Before you start calling me a weirdo, let me explain. Yes, I am aware of Mushoku Tensei’s poor reputation for a variety of reasons. But trust me when I say that if you can get past Rudeus’ actions/behavior in the first half of the series, there’s gold ahead. Part 2 of the series more than makes up for the strangeness of the first half.

The series Mushoku Tensei is widely regarded as defining and establishing modern isekai. Many popular isekai tropes in today’s shows are attributed to Mushoku Tensei, ranging from the mediaeval fantasy world setting to the usually NEET loser protagonist being hit by truck-kun to element-based magic systems.

The story, characters, and world-building are all fantastic. Indeed, world-building is likely to be its strongest suit.

Overall, if you can get past the nonsense at the start (and the odd scenarios), Mushoku Tensei is a lot of fun.
