The Bleach manga was previously adapted into an anime series that aired from 2004 to 2012. It was also the inspiration for several anime films. In addition to anime adaptations, the manga has inspired video games, a live-action film, and other projects. In 2020, an anime film based on Kubo’s BURN THE WITCH manga, set in the same universe as Bleach, was released.
Viz Media describes the manga’s first volume as:
Ichigo Kurosaki has always been able to see ghosts, but it is his close encounter with Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper and member of the mysterious Soul Society, that changes his life the most. Rukia tries to lend Ichigo some of her powers while fighting a Hollow, an evil spirit that preys on humans who exhibit psychic energy, but Ichigo absorbs every last drop of her energy, much to her surprise. Ichigo, now a full-fledged Soul Reaper, quickly learns that the world he lives in is full of dangerous spirits, and it is his responsibility, along with Rukia, who is slowly regaining her powers, to protect the innocent from Hollows and help the spirits themselves find peace.
