When I hear the phrase “Volleyball anime,” the first thing that comes to mind is, of course, Haikyuu!! When you think about it, Haikyuu!! is responsible for the popularity of this genre. Volleyball manga are gaining popularity in the industry. And hopefully, these manga will be animated soon.

I’m a huge volleyball fan, and it’s great to see my favourite sport getting the recognition it deserves. Volleyball has it all: drama, intensity, and spectacular moments. To be honest, there aren’t a lot of volleyball anime out there. But don’t worry, you’ve got me!! I’ve got you covered.

10-Zoku Attacker You! Family Medal E No Michi

10-Zoku Attacker You! Family Medal E No Michi

The first anime on this list is Zoku Attacker You! Family Medal E No Michi. This anime is essentially a spin-off of the original Aggressor You!, which aired in the 1980s.

This show addresses the fundamental issues that athletes face off the court. It tells the story of a group of teenage girls who are determined to succeed despite the fact that their team is on the verge of disbanding. It demonstrates that athletes are also people. They, too, are dealing with family, love, and friendship issues, and it is not easy for them.

This underappreciated gem first aired in 2008. Few people are aware of it. I believe it merits more attention. The animation, on the other hand, is poor, which is a major flaw. It has a MAL rating of 6.15, which I think is pretty good considering how popular volleyball anime were back then.

09-Anime Document: Road to Munich

Anime Document: Road to Munich

The following show on this list is Munchen e no Michi. This show is essentially a live action x animation documentary about a volleyball match at the Munich Olympics.

It consists of 16 episodes, each lasting 25 minutes. Because it first aired in 1972, don’t expect much from the animation. It won’t be very good. There is insufficient information available about the studio or anything else.

08-Attack on Tomorrow

Attack on Tomorrow

One of the most realistic sports animes I’ve ever seen is Attack on Tomorrow. It’s amazing how it depicts our MCs’ trials and tribulations.

The plot of this show revolves around a group of high school girls who enjoy volleyball. However, their school did not have a volleyball club, so they decided to form one from scratch. It all began as a fun activity. Their enthusiasm and zeal grew as time passed. Their team quickly gained popularity at their school.

The National High School Volleyball Tournament is the next goal. The girls believe they can do it with the support of their school. It will not be simple. They must overcome numerous challenges. Will they be able to overcome all of the obstacles and win the tournament? What are your thoughts?

This show debuted in 1977 and ran for 23 episodes. It has a MAL rating of 6.31, which I think is quite good. The animation isn’t particularly good. However, if you adore volleyball, you should definitely give this one a try.

07-Harukana Receive

Harukana Receive

One of the most recent volleyball anime on this list is Harukana Receive. I’m assuming you’re already aware that there are various types of volleyball. There’s traditional volleyball, beach volleyball, footvolley, hooverball, and many other variations.

This anime is about beach volleyball. Haruka Oozora’s story is featured. Kanata Higa, her grandmother, and she recently relocated to Okinawa. She noticed some girls playing beach volleyball while touring the nearby beach. She joined them as well.

Narumi Tooi notices Haruka’s cousin Kanata approaching the court after a while. This friendly match turned into a match after she arrived, and Haruka’s team lost. Now, I’m not going to go over the fundamentals of beach volleyball, but keep in mind that it only has two players per side.

Haruka discovered during the match that Kanata and Narumi used to be a formidable duo. Kanata, on the other hand, quit beach volleyball due to her small stature. Haruka has now decided to assist Kanata in overcoming her anxiety and winning the beach volleyball championship. Can they pull it off?

This anime has a pretty decent rating of 6.66. The animation is also good.

06-Attack No. 1

Attack No. 1

The following anime on this list is Attack No. 1. This gem first aired in 1969. It is one of the most established sports anime series.

This show’s MC is Kozue. She enjoys playing middle school volleyball. Kozue has a hugeee dream of representing the Japanese Volleyball team. However, it is not that simple. The plot progresses as we follow Kozue’s journey.

She does make it to the big stage during the show. She soon realises the dark side of professional volleyball, or any other sport for that matter. As you advance in your career, it becomes increasingly difficult to be satisfied with yourself. People are envious of your success and will do everything they can to bring you down.

Nonetheless, she manages to keep up with everything and realise her dream. With over 100 episodes, this anime is a true gem. Kozue’s personality changes and hardships throughout the series are beautifully depicted. Because this anime is quite old, the animation isn’t all that great. If you’re a true volleyball fan, you should definitely give this one a shot. You will not be let down.

This show has a MAL rating of 6.83. It is a bit lower than expected. Most peeps prefer animation over story, so it makes sense.

05-Attacker You!

Attacker You!

You are being attacked! Is yet another old-school sports anime that aired in the 1980s. You Hazuki’s story is featured in this. You live with her father and her brother, Sunny. She fell in love with volleyball after watching it on television.

She hoped to represent Japan in the Olympics. She quickly rose through the ranks of her high school’s girls’ volleyball club because of this desire. Throughout her journey, she met some incredible people. Some were friends, while others were foes. She also fell in love with someone during her long journey.

This show has over 50 episodes and is a great way to pass the time. This show’s plot occasionally leans toward the shoujo genre. It is still regarded as a sports classic. If you’re a true volleyball fan, you should definitely give it a try.

It has a MAL rating of 6.64, which isn’t particularly high. It should have been significantly higher. However, as previously stated, people prefer animation to story.

04-2.43 Seiin High School Boy’s Volleyball Club

2.43 Seiin High School Boy’s Volleyball Club

One of the most recent volleyball anime on this list is Seiin High School Boy’s Volleyball Club. This anime premiered in the winter of 2021. Fans had high hopes for it, but were slightly disappointed. It’s not that the anime was bad; it’s just that Haikyuu! set the bar too high.

This show’s plot revolves around Kimichika Hajima, a prodigy setter. Hajima returned to his hometown, where he reconnected with childhood friends such as Yuni Kuroba. Hajima notices Kuroba’s incredible talent for volleyball. He convinces him to join the team and assist them in winning the championship.

However, things did not go as planned, and Kuroba’s nervousness cost his team the tournament. He then left the club and resolved to avoid Hajima. They were reunited again the following year in high school. This time, Hajima promises not to make the same mistakes and to assist Kuroba. Will he be able to convince Kuroba once more?

This show’s animation is quite good when compared to some of the other anime on this list. I’m confident you’ll enjoy it! It has a MAL rating of 6.15, which is obviously quite low.

03-Kougyou Aika Volley Boys

Kougyou Aika Volley Boys

The anime Kougyou Aika Volley Boys is not your typical volleyball show. This is not a show about enthusiasm or dedication. The basic plot of this anime revolves around a group of boys who are desperate for the attention of women.

One of Kudo High School’s classes is completely devoid of females. Yess! That’s right, there are no females in this class. It’s an all-boys club. As a result, the boys in this class decided to form a girls’ volleyball team in the hopes that girls would join.

Well! I won’t tell you how their plan went down. This show has only two episodes, each lasting 25 minutes, so it’s a quick watch. It first aired in 1997, so the animation isn’t all that great. Still, I think it’s a good watch. It’s one of those anime that hasn’t been rated by MAL.

02-Shoujo Fight: Norainu-Tachi No Odekake

Shoujo Fight: Norainu-Tachi No Odekake

The following anime on this list is Shoujo Fight. This anime tells the story of Neri Ooishi, a teenage girl. Neri is regarded as a prodigy. She captained her elementary school volleyball team, which advanced to the national tournament.

However, she was not treated with the respect she deserved in middle school. She had been a reserve player for three years. High school was her last chance to show the world what she was capable of. Can she pull it off?

This anime originally aired in 2009. It only has one episode that lasts 30 minutes. You can watch it all at once. This show has no real drama or anything. It is entirely focused on volleyball. As a volleyball fan, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. The animation is also quite smooth.

Like Kougyou Aika Volley Boys, this show also doesn’t have a MAL rating.

01-Haikyuu!

Haikyuu!

Finallyy! Haikyuu! is one of the most well-known sports anime. It has simply revolutionised this genre. When a new sports anime is released, fans immediately compare it to Haikyuu!. This show contains elements of drama, action, comedy, and romance.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard of this show. I’ll explain Haikyuu’s plot! Hinata Shouyou’s story is told in this anime. Hinata was inspired as a child by a volleyball player known as the Little Giant. Since then, he has wished to play for the Japanese Volleyball Team.

Hinata’s middle school lacked a volleyball club. He formed his own team and competed in a tournament, and of course, he was completely defeated. He met Kageyama Tobio, also known as the King of the Court, during this tournament.

Both of them were admitted to Karasuno High School after graduating from high school. Hinata faced numerous challenges as a result of her short stature. However, he made up for it with his exceptional jumping ability and never-ending passion for the game.

Haikyuu! has four seasons, with the third receiving the highest rating of 8.79 on MAL. Its animation is simply exquisite, thanks to Production I.G. Its manga is also one of the most popular on MAL. I’m not sure what you’ve been doing with your life if you haven’t watched it yet, despite being a volleyball fan. Go ahead and BINGE!!

Conclusion

Conclusion

So, here’s the rundown, fellas. I’ve done my absolute best to create the ideal list for you. The rankings are not skewed in any way. The majority of the anime on this list are old and have poor animation.

Volleyball is becoming increasingly popular. It’s wonderful to see your favourite anime get the attention it deserves.
